In the center of Harlem, students at PS/MS 007 Samuel Stern School now have their own small-sided soccer fields that add new energy to their school days. The colorful turf courts sit right on the school grounds and transform what used to be a plain outdoor space into a vibrant meeting point for play and learning.
Creating more space for play and growth
The idea behind the mini pitch is simple but powerful: give children a safe and inspiring place to move, laugh and compete. The size fits perfectly into urban surroundings while keeping the real game feeling alive. Every recess and after-school hour now invites friendly matches and teamwork in motion.
Community and collaboration
This installation came to life through the shared vision of Street Soccer USA and local education partners. With the support of sponsors and volunteers, the project stands as proof that sports can unite communities and encourage confidence among young people. Teachers report that the new field helps students build focus, discipline, and friendships.
Where sport meets education
At Samuel Stern School, the field is used not only for soccer lessons but also for leadership programs and fitness events that include the whole neighborhood. Families gather around during open sessions and weekend activities, turning the school yard into a lively community corner filled with cheering voices.
A field that inspires
The Samuel Stern mini pitches show how a small space can have a big impact. It reminds us that when children are given room to play and dream, they grow stronger on and off the field. Anyone passing by can see the joy on their faces and feel that this place stands for more than sport, it stands for opportunity.
