The 1,000 DFB Mini-Pitches Project
In 2008 the DFB (German Football Association) decided to actively promote soccer as a school and grassroots sport, and to use play to help integrate kids and young people. More than 4,000 schools and clubs applied for the DFB grant, which covered the cost of the entire field (excluding groundwork).
1,000 mini-pitches were planned and 1,006 SoccerGround courts were built, funded by the proceeds of the 2006 World Cup and UEFA. Spread evenly across Germany's 21 regional soccer associations, they give as many kids as possible a field nearby. Following the DFB's example, the Brandenburg Football Association built another 84, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania 15, and many other clients around 300 additional SoccerGround fields.

Site requirements
The Classic requires groundwork by the buyer: the soil is excavated, filled with sand, gravel and chippings, and compacted. Socket foundations are then built according to our construction plan, as for an official sports field sub-base to DIN 18035 Part 7. We provide the detailed documentation.
In our experience this work is usually straightforward and can often be done at relatively low cost with local contractors. If it turns out to be costly, or the site is already paved with asphalt or concrete (e.g. a schoolyard or parking lot), the SoccerGround Advanced is the alternative: just as sturdy, but usually without any foundations.
Technical details
- Set in concrete with socket foundations (e.g. 14 sockets for a 65' x 42' court)
- Complete and ready to play: surrounding boards, goals and ball-stop nets behind both goals
- Extremely sturdy, structurally certified, long-lasting and virtually maintenance-free
- All steel components hot-dip galvanized: permanently weatherproof and corrosion-resistant
- Boards 3.3' (1 m) high, made of double-walled, metal-coated sandwich panels with a special sound-absorbing foam core
- Boards in DFB green; many other RAL colors available for boards and nets
- Goals incl. goal nets integrated into the steel structure; access for artificial turf maintenance vehicles
- Access through doors in the goals, TÜV-approved as emergency exits; an entrance door in the boards on request
- Ball-stop nets behind both goals, 10' high incl. boards (higher available); approx. 2" x 2" mesh and 4 mm (5/32") cord: kids cannot climb them and they won't cut into fingers
- The nets are evenly tensioned by stainless steel systems and neatly threaded onto a round tube directly at the edge of the boards
- Also available as a multi-sport court
- No finger traps, no sharp edges and no protruding corners
- TÜV GS-tested as a complete system and compliant with DIN EN 15312 (freely accessible multi-sport equipment), so the field does not require constant supervision
Field and goal sizes
The size can be chosen freely, depending on the available space, the target group and the number of players. Several mini-pitches can be combined, so that games run side by side, board to board.
